DESCRIPTION

The Sentry Model HM-535 is a regulated DC power supply to provide low voltage to Sentry components. An external battery connects to supply voltage in the event of a power outage.

The power supply unit includes a battery charger for maintaining the proper battery charge level. LED indicators continuously show the status of the power supply and battery.

The power supply unit is monitored by the Sentry console. The console's video screen will show messages for power supply trouble and battery trouble with the supply's unit number if a problem arises.

A special internal control will turn off the output voltage via commands from the Sentry console to provide automatic zone resets if required.

The Model HM-535 will power up to 100 host panels, each with the typical one smoke detector in a full alarm condition with all smoke detectors sounding.

Over current protection automatically limits output current and will turn off the output voltage in extreme cases. The output voltage automatically recovers without the need for manual intervention. Output voltage is maintained up to 95% from no load to rated load.

All inputs and outputs, plus the data connections are protected against transient electrical surges.

BATTERY CHARGER

A built-in battery charger provides charge voltage for maintaining the battery. When line power is off, the battery provides voltage to all connected Sentry components. A protection relay will open the battery circuit before the battery is discharged to a level that will cause it permanent damage. When line power is restored, the battery is recharged. The battery circuit is protected by an on board replaceable fuse.

The system will switch from the power supply to battery automatically when line power is interrupted. When line power is restored, the system will instantly revert back to the power supply without any operator intervention or manual restart procedures.

A battery test circuit temporarily disconnects the charger and provides an artificial load to test the battery at least once a day. Battery trouble will be indicated at the supply and will show on the console's display screen.

BATTERY

The Model HM-535 Power Supply Unit includes a 12 volt, 18 amp/hour, sealed gel electrolyte battery, Model HM-732 in an accompanying enclosure. The power supply is equipped with 36" wire leads for connection to the external battery. The battery's enclosure is normally mounted next to the HM-535 Power Supply enclosure.

The battery maintains the typical load for four hours of normal operation. Additional Model HM-732 batteries can be externally connected for installations that require a longer back-up time. Consult factory for additional information. Typical battery life is 5 years. Replacement batteries can be ordered through a Sentry dealer. Replacement battery: Model HM-732.

SUPERVISION

The Model HM-535 Power Supply Unit includes a supervisory system to monitor the power supply, charger, and battery. The power supply connects to a data line for communication to the Master Console.

The console provides individual alarm messages for power supply trouble and battery trouble, plus indicates the power supply's data line number. The console automatically controls the supply's DC output to provide a zone reset.

The power supply unit incorporates six LED indicators to continuously show the status of the supply's operation.

LED INDICATORS

1. OUTPUT, green, lights when the DC voltage is On.

2. Low Power Supply Voltage, yellow, means the DC output voltage is below 11.5 Volts.

3. Low Battery, battery voltage is low, fuse open, battery disconnected.

4. Data Transmit, green, flashes to show data communication with console.

5. Charger Trouble, indicates the charger is Off or malfunctioning.

6. BACK-UP MODE, Lights when the battery is supplying power.

INSTALLATION

The Power supply is enclosed in an metal, wall mount cabinet with hinged door. Heavy duty terminal blocks provide easy and reliable connections for all wiring.

The power supply unit should always be connected to the facility's emergency power supply to allow system operation during extended periods of commercial power outages.

The HM-535 Power Supply requires ventilation and must be installed in a safe, non-confined location.

DIMENSIONS

The Power Supply is housed in a metal enclosure, 11" X 11" X 3.25". Holes are included for mounting screws.

The Battery is housed in a metal enclosure, 7' X 8" X 3.5".  Holes are included for mounting screws
