Description
The MPU-8 is the Central Processing Unit (CPU) for a Heritage MedCall "CliniComm"
programmable light/tone annunciator system. By means of a programmable EPROM a
customized program is stored and run which dictates all functions for the entire
system. A single MPU-8 board can control up to 57 HM-I/O-16 boards with 16 I/O
ports each, giving a total system capacity of 920 ports. The board is designed
to mount in, and be powered through, the HM-CC Card Cage. Connectors are
provided for connection to the 8 available I/O ports and an optional serial
output port.
Connections
A gold plated edge card connector is provided for data and power connections
to the printed circuit board when installed in the HM-CC Card Cage. A DB-25F
connector is provided for the 8 I/O channels and switch and lamp common
connections. A DB-9F connector is provided for optional RS-232 serial output
connection.

Installation
Make sure all power is off to the system. SEVERE DAMAGE CAN BE CAUSED BY
INSTALLING CARDS AND/OR MAKING CONNECTIONS TO THE SYSTEM WHILE POWER IS ON.
Using proper antistatic handling procedures remove the card from its shipping
container and check that the address dip switch is properly set according to the
Installation Guide: Microprocessor Based Systems. Also make sure the programmed
EPROM is installed in the socket designated U7. Without the proper dip switch
setting or the EPROM the system will not operate. Remove the cover from the card
cage and install the card in the first slot closest to the power connectors.
Replace the cover and make connections as required to all cards in the system.
Apply power to the system and check for proper operation.
