SYSTEM OVERVIEW
CONSOLE EQUIPMENT
The Master Console consists of the computer controller, video
display screen, console keypad, and audible alert panel. The console is usually installed
at a 24 hour staffed location. All operations are very simple and "user
friendly". The system does not require the operating personnel to have computer
knowledge. A HELP SCREEN button is included on the operator keypad to provide "on
screen" instructions to the operator at anytime. This help information is provided by
the facility to describe their procedures for dealing with each emergency or alarm.
MASTER CONTROLLER
The computer controller is housed in a rugged enclosure and can be mounted anywhere near
the console display screen. Low voltage wiring connects the apartment panels to the
computer controller. The controller is capable of supporting all apartment and common area
equipment.
The controller is supervised by a "watchdog" type feature, which will attempt to
automatically reset the system and will notify the operator of a system malfunction. The
power supply for the controller, display screen, and printer is backed up with a Standby
Power Supply (SPS) system. This will provide power for up to 15 minutes during a power
failure. This backup time can be extended if needed.
VIDEO DISPLAY SCREEN
The desk mounted display screen continuously shows the date and time. When a system event
is received, the type of call and its location are displayed on the screen. An audio
beeper alerts the operator to the emergency message. Other screen areas are used for
displaying special messages, such as building security and equipment monitoring. Screen
messages are displayed by alarm types. Typical messages are dedicated for Emergency Help,
Assurance Check-In, Smoke, Security, Door Alarm, and Service. All display wording is in
English for easy understanding of each event. An optional flat screen monitor is available
in place of the standard monitor when desk space is a premium.
KEYPAD
The console keypad is small and easy to use. A single keystroke accomplishes most
operations.
LINE PRINTER
The line printer is installed at the master console for providing hard copy of daily
assurance check-in reports, for printing medical history reports, and recording all system
events. Time and date of each occurrence is noted when initiated, and when cleared.
REMOTE ANNUNCIATION
Emergency messages can be sent to remote LCD display screens. Each screen can be preset to
announce events from specific building areas.
Optional interface devices are available for transmitting critical alarm events to
alphanumeric pagers or two-way radios.
A pager interface connects to a pager transmitter to provide alphanumeric messages on
portable pagers or "beepers".
The Sentry Legacy Voice Synthesizer produces spoken voice messages for a facility's two-way radio
system.
SYSTEMS INTERFACE
The Sentry Legacy Console interfaces with most existing fire alarm systems, nurse call systems,
patient wander alarms, door monitoring, and security systems. The Sentry can be used as
the master annunciator for all signaling systems in a facility. The console screen will
display the output messages from the other systems and forward their alarms to Sentry's
remote annunciation devices such as radios and pocket pagers. Systems can interconnect to
the Sentry Legacy Console by RS-232 or RS-485 serial communications ports.
EVENTS RECORDING
All system events can be recorded to a disk file or to a printed page. All recorded events
include the date and time. When events are recorded on a floppy disk, the disk can be
removed for review and printing of files on almost any PC. Files are saved on the floppy
disk in coma-separated fields that allow review and report formatting using any common
available spreadsheet such as Excel, Quattro Pro, etc.
MEDICAL HISTORY
The Sentry Legacy Medical History feature will provide a printed report of the resident's medical
history. The medical history database is entered and updated on a separate computer. The
database disk files are then uploaded into the Sentry Legacy console controller. This feature
provides the residents name, telephone number, next of kin, etc. When an emergency call is
placed, a number appears in front of the call. When that number is pressed on the keyboard
the information is displayed and can be printed. This report can then be given to the
emergency team that is called for assistance.
